Secretary issues rallying call

Golcar United secretary Ben Senior wants the village to keep backing the boys. United have enjoyed a number of sell-out crowds in the NWCFL this season as fans flocked to watch non-league football. And Senior is now keen for people to keep supporting Golcar as professional football prepares to let fans in once again.

“We could not have done what we have done without people supporting us,” he said.

“We don’t have a big money backer as such, so it is vital we get fans through the door, spending money on burgers, pints and gate receipts.

“We are a village club and without that backing we couldn't have done what we have done.

“Without people supporting us we would be nowhere, we wouldn’t be able to function as a club.

“The village and surrounding areas are buying into what we are doing and hopefully they are enjoying watching live non-league football.”


United have made big progress since switching leagues just a season ago and now boast two stands, a clubhouse and a vastly improved playing surface. Golcar are scheduled to travel to Prestwich Hays on 5th December in the First Division North, before hosting Nelson the following Saturday. And Senior is urging people to pop down and show their support for the team - and pride in their local community.


“It is about being proud of the village,” he added. “From being young a lot of people will have an affinity for the club and have played for the club as juniors.

“To come from what we have to the facilities we have now is brilliant for anyone who has been associated with the club.

“To do what we have done as soon as we have is testament to the volunteers and the committee, who have done such a large amount of work in such a short space of time.

“It's hard work but if we hadn’t done it we would have struggled as a club.

“We feel a great sense of pride, it's brilliant seeing the fans coming down.

“There’s a real buzz around the village and we need that to continue.”


United also hope to relaunch the Legends Club initiative to help raise crucial cash for the club. They hope to get as many past players on board as possible, with the Legends Club also running prize draws each month. Membership will cost £5 a month with prizes of £50, £20 and £10. All proceeds will then go to ground improvement work.

NEW SIGNING: Jacob Buchanan

  By Golcar United Golcar United are delighted to announce the signing of Jacob Buchanan and would like to give him a huge welcome to The Skye Direct Stadium. Jacob Buchanan has become the club's fifth signing of the season after joining us from Eccleshill United. Buchanan has been at Eccleshill since the start of the 2019-20 season and made a number of appearances for their first team before the league was curtailed due to Covid-19. He has continued to play for their side this season before he made the switch to Golcar this evening. Buchanan, a versatile player who can play in a  number of positions including as a winger, has enjoyed a successful semi-professional career which has taken in spells at Brighouse Town, Emley, Campion and Liversedge. We hope that the Memory Lane photos have been bringing back memories for a lot of our old players and supporters. We also hope that we have shown how much that history means to us as a club. We'd like to encourage our former players, as well as supporters old and new, to join the newly relaunched Legends Club. For just £5 per month you will be entered into our prize draw where the top prize is £50, although if membership goes up then so does the prize money.
