ANNOUNCEMENT: The continued development of Golcar United

By Golcar United The last 18 months at Golcar United have seen a lot of work go on to bring the facilities up to standard. This was done initially to allow us to enter the North West Counties Football League after playing in the West Riding County Amateur League since 1993. After much success in the latter years, winning the league and cup double in 2017-18 and 2018-19, the decision was made to turn semi-professional and this saw the installation of hard standing, a clubhouse, a fence and significant work was carried out on the pitch. Early in the season 2019-20 season, we also installed floodlights and carried on the work throughout the COVID-19 pandemic which has seen a 100 seater stand installed, the clubhouse extended, a standing area behind the goal with a covered area, a new toilet block and extensive work carried out on the pitch. Ash Connor reflects on (almost) 200 games in charge

By Stephen Thirkill Joint boss Ash Connor perhaps has more reason than most to hope for three points when Golcar United face Nelson. Connor will take charge of his 200th game as United boss, along with brother Gav, when the Weavers’ face Nelson at home on 12th December. And for Ash it is a magic landmark he is very proud to have achieved. “It is a good achievement that we are looking forward to,” he said. “We only found out the other day that it was our 200th game. “The progress that we have made in that time is massive. When we started seven seasons ago we had an average park field.  “It's brilliant what has been achieved in that time and the facilities are constantly improving, this is down to the amount of good people we have volunteering at the club on a weekly basis which all the management and players really appreciate. Legends Club Relaunched

By Golcar United We are delighted to announce the relaunch of the Golcar United Legends Club. We hope that the Memory Lane photos have been bringing back memories for a lot of our old players and supporters. We also hope that we have shown how much that history means to us as a club. We'd like to encourage our former players, as well as supporters old and new, to join the newly relaunched Legends Club. For just £5 per month you will be entered into our prize draw where the top prize is £50, although if membership goes up then so does the prize money. But more importantly, you will also help to contribute to our ongoing work at the club, such as improving the facilities and giving you and the whole community of Golcar something to be proud of. NEW SIGNING: Jacob Buchanan

  By Golcar United Golcar United are delighted to announce the signing of Jacob Buchanan and would like to give him a huge welcome to The Skye Direct Stadium. Jacob Buchanan has become the club's fifth signing of the season after joining us from Eccleshill United. Buchanan has been at Eccleshill since the start of the 2019-20 season and made a number of appearances for their first team before the league was curtailed due to Covid-19. He has continued to play for their side this season before he made the switch to Golcar this evening. Buchanan, a versatile player who can play in a  number of positions including as a winger, has enjoyed a successful semi-professional career which has taken in spells at Brighouse Town, Emley, Campion and Liversedge. Gav Connor urges Golcar to go out and enjoy themselves

By Stephen Thirkill Joint manager Gav Connor is urging Golcar United’s players to go out and enjoy themselves as they look to sort out their home form. Golcar have lost all four NWCFL games at The Skye Direct Stadium this season with Connor believing the large crowds could be having a negative impact on the players.  “The be all and end all is our home form is costing us and we’re not too sure what the exact reason is,” he said. “Our away from is decent. We have played reasonably well and got decent results so we’re trying to put our finger on why it's going wrong at home. “We’ve got decent crowds and should be getting up for those type of games, but for some reason it looks like it's having the opposite effect. “Teams are coming to us, seeing the crowds and the buzz around the place and it’s building them up for the games and not us. “We just need to relax a bit more and focus on the football. Secretary issues rallying call

By Stephen Thirkill Golcar United secretary Ben Senior wants the village to keep backing the boys. United have enjoyed a number of sell-out crowds in the NWCFL this season as fans flocked to watch non-league football. And Senior is now keen for people to keep supporting Golcar as professional football prepares to let fans in once again. “We could not have done what we have done without people supporting us,” he said. “We don’t have a big money backer as such, so it is vital we get fans through the door, spending money on burgers, pints and gate receipts. “We are a village club and without that backing we couldn't have done what we have done. “Without people supporting us we would be nowhere, we wouldn’t be able to function as a club. “The village and surrounding areas are buying into what we are doing and hopefully they are enjoying watching live non-league football.” United have made big progress since switching leagues just a season ago and now boast two stands, a clubhouse and a...
