ANNOUNCEMENT: The continued development of Golcar United

The last 18 months at Golcar United have seen a lot of work go on to bring the facilities up to standard. This was done initially to allow us to enter the North West Counties Football League after playing in the West Riding County Amateur League since 1993. After much success in the latter years, winning the league and cup double in 2017-18 and 2018-19, the decision was made to turn semi-professional and this saw the installation of hard standing, a clubhouse, a fence and significant work was carried out on the pitch. Early in the season 2019-20 season, we also installed floodlights and carried on the work throughout the COVID-19 pandemic which has seen a 100 seater stand installed, the clubhouse extended, a standing area behind the goal with a covered area, a new toilet block and extensive work carried out on the pitch.

Today, we are announcing the next stage in this process. We are looking to continue the improvement of the facilities significantly. Since we turned semi-professional there have been problems with traffic congestion and parking on the road. We plan to make vast improvements on the car park and provide additional parking to make sure this is no longer an issue. 

As everyone is aware, we have had a lot of problems with the pitch over the last two seasons and this has also caused problems for a certain number of residents when the weather has been particularly bad. We are looking to install a 3G plastic pitch to replace the current pitch and also stop the problems that have occurred over the last two years.

Finally, our links with the community are absolutely vital and we hope to develop a community room/space for activities such as after school clubs and holiday activities for young people around the Golcar area. This space would also be utilised to accommodate local community groups and other local events.

We would like to involve the whole community in this process by asking your thoughts on our plans going forward. We feel that these improvements will benefit the whole community but would like to gauge the interest and gather all the thoughts of that community before we go any further. The village of Golcar is vitally important to Golcar United and we want these improvements to benefit everybody in the village. We feel it is imperative that we maintain our links with the community and are confident that this can benefit everybody.

We have put together a small survey on these improvements and invite all the local community to answer the questions and provide their thoughts on our plans. The link to the survey is below and we encourage everyone to fill it out so we can take on board your thoughts and feelings on this.

NEW SIGNING: Jacob Buchanan

  By Golcar United Golcar United are delighted to announce the signing of Jacob Buchanan and would like to give him a huge welcome to The Skye Direct Stadium. Jacob Buchanan has become the club's fifth signing of the season after joining us from Eccleshill United. Buchanan has been at Eccleshill since the start of the 2019-20 season and made a number of appearances for their first team before the league was curtailed due to Covid-19. He has continued to play for their side this season before he made the switch to Golcar this evening. Buchanan, a versatile player who can play in a  number of positions including as a winger, has enjoyed a successful semi-professional career which has taken in spells at Brighouse Town, Emley, Campion and Liversedge. Legends Club Relaunched

By Golcar United We are delighted to announce the relaunch of the Golcar United Legends Club. We hope that the Memory Lane photos have been bringing back memories for a lot of our old players and supporters. We also hope that we have shown how much that history means to us as a club. We'd like to encourage our former players, as well as supporters old and new, to join the newly relaunched Legends Club. For just £5 per month you will be entered into our prize draw where the top prize is £50, although if membership goes up then so does the prize money. But more importantly, you will also help to contribute to our ongoing work at the club, such as improving the facilities and giving you and the whole community of Golcar something to be proud of.
